The Malu Positioning Triangle was developed to help therapists involved in the care of people with disabilities and special needs, where seating and transporting these folk is a real and serious problem.
The few ‘semi-solutions’ almost always require a car-seat, which is often too small and inadequate for a larger child or adult, and the few that are commercially available are often cumbersome and very expensive.
An idea I saw in a therapist’s book on “make your own equipment”, was a soft cloth triangle with cloth ties to attach to a little wooden school chair, looked like it could work.
I decided to make one and try it out on a little child. It was very make shift, but had great potential. Over the next six years I worked on the idea and after many trials and errors, it finally evolved into the product that it is today.
I continue to make variations to it and now, even if I have several ‘standard sizes’, the different parts of an MPT can all be ‘customised’ to fit the client, and allow for some flexibility.
